Master of Yachts (MOY) 200 tons Mate - Coastal (an IYT Worldwide Course)

Duration: 6 days

Approvals: MCA, Marshall Islands

Price: Sail $1925, Power $2,050

Assessment: oral exam, written exam and practical exam onboard

Expiration/Re-validation: every 5 years

Prerequisites: Must have logged 30 days and 800 miles at sea as crew and 2 days and 12 night hours underway as watch leader/skipper as well as 30 days on board a yacht at sea as an active crew member. For the purpose of this requirement, a day is defined as a period of 24 consecutive hours. Parts of a day may be included in this total. A day is not invalidated by a candidate leaving the yacht for a few hours during a cruise. The term “at sea” is defined as being on a vessel outside of any harbor - natural or artificial - in which a cruising yacht could secure or anchor for a prolonged period of time.

Evidence of successful completion of approved training courses provided by an accredited body may allow the mileage requirement to be reduced to 500 nautical miles. Candidates may sit the course prior to obtaining the minimum sea time. However, they will not be issued their MOY 200 Mate Certification until all requirements have been met. Yachting experience must be signed off by the skipper of the yacht on which the candidate was sailing. Self certification when acting as captain may be acceptable but may need verification. The course must be completed and minimum sea time requirements met before applying for the exam.

Candidates must demonstrate that they have sufficient ability to handle, dock, and anchor the vessel with the required level of competence and are expected to be examined on any subject contained in the syllabus and on their yachting experience to date.

In the event that the examiner considers the examinee not to have achieved the required standards an MOY certificate will not be issued. Completion of the IYT MOY 200 Ton Mate course is not a guarantee of passing the examination and receiving your certificate.
